KIPPUR - The Day of Atonement; a very solemn day devoted to fasting,
prayer, and repentance. |
| SUKKOT
- First two days of the Feast of Tabernacles, which commemorates the
dwelling of the Israelites in temporary huts in the wilderness. |
| SHEMINI
ATZERET - Eighth Day of Assembly and SIMCHAT TORAH - Rejoicing of the
Law. This is the date when the Torah reading cycle is completed. |
| HANUKKAH
- Feast of Lights; victory of the Maccabees and rededication of the
Temple. |

PURIM - The Feast of
Esther. Celebrates defeat of plot to destroy the Jews of Persia.

| PESACH
- Passover; deliverance of the Jewish people from Egypt. The Seder service
in the first two evenings recounts the story of Exodus. The last two days
are also observed as full holy days. |
| SHAVUOT
- Feast of Weeks; marks the giving of the Law (Torah) at Mt Sinai and the
Giving of the Holy Spirit to the Church as mentioned in Acts Chapter 2.
Shavuot is also known as Pentecost. |
